
Canadian Senator Larry Campbell
Larry Campbell, Class of 1984 and 1990, ran with the Olympic torch for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, B.C. Campbell, a Canadian senator and former Vancouver mayor, helped bring the worldwide event to the city. He also is a member of CityU’s Board of Governors. Karen Owen, Class of 1999, received an award for Middle Level Principal of the Year by the Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP). Principals who represent the AWSP chose Owen from eight regional finalists. She earned her CityU Master of Education in Educational Leadership degree and Principal Certification. Timothy Reining, CityU School of Management Student, received recognition by Cambridge’s Who’s Who for his work with his company T’s Place Inc. His non-profit organization provides education on retraining rehabilitation for those with disabilities. Cambridge honored Reining for his dedication, leadership and excellence in administrative operations. The organization is an exclusive membership that empowers global executives, professionals and entrepreneurs. Reining is enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program. Nancy Rollins Gantz, Class of 1987, published her book entitled 101 Global Leadership Lessons for Nurses: Shared Legacies From Leaders and Their Mentors. The international nursing consultant worked with more than 200 nurse leaders worldwide to gather content for her mentoring book on global perspectives. Gantz graduated from CityU with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Jerry L. Rasmussen, Class of 1984, was promoted to project manager by Raytheon Corporation. He earned the recognition upon completion of the strategic leadership program and achieving Six Sigma black belt status. Rasmussen and his wife Jean celebrated with a ten-day cruise to the Hawaiian Islands. He co-founded the Seattle small business Rainier Marketing in 1991 and during his career has participated in international business agreements in Asia and Europe. Rasmussen, who now lives in Kentucky, says, “I miss the Pacific Northwest but keep in touch with many of my Seattle area friends via e-mail. Rainier Marketing has continued thanks to my partners. My City University of Seattle education has been very valuable to me at each step.” He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Mary Jo Budzius, Class of 2002, is the Kingco South Region Principal of the Year for 2009‐2010. Budzius serves as the principal of Islander Middle School in the Mercer Island School District. The Association of Washington Middle Level Principals selected her for the award. Budzius holds a CityU Master of Education in Educational Leadership degree and Principal Certification.
Steve Chestnut, Class of 1982, received recognition as Washington State’s 2010 Superintendent of the Year by the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA). The Selah School District superintendent previously served 12 years as the superintendent for the Moses Lake School District. Chestnut graduated with his Master of Business Administration degree.
